What we found
408 Clinton Street is a typical Carroll Gardens Italianate brownstone — tall, narrow, with a relatively modest but well-proportioned cornice. The cornice had reached a point of accumulated minor failure: paint cracks at every seam, surface rust visible at multiple points, and the decorative band beneath the main cornice line showing its age.
The work
Strip back to sound substrate. Rust treat. Re-secure loose decorative elements. Patch where metal had thinned through. Re-caulk every seam. Two coats of high-grade color-matched finish coat.
The result
The cornice is back to a finished, unified appearance. The decorative band reads cleanly. The building looks restored — which it now is.
