What we found
355 Court Street's cornice had been declining gradually but visibly for several years. Rust streaks running down the brownstone below, paint cracking at the seams, a couple of decorative elements with their original detail softening. The building was on a high-traffic block — visibility mattered.
The work
Standard cornice rehab sequence: scrape failed paint and surface rust, treat penetrating rust, solder where the metal had thinned, patch where decorative elements had loosened, prime, and finish in two color-matched coats. Carroll Gardens has its own color tradition — a slightly warmer brownstone tone than Park Slope or Bed-Stuy — and the finish was matched accordingly.
The result
Cornice restored cleanly. Rust streaking stopped at the source. Visible character of the building improved meaningfully from the sidewalk view.
