What we found
1055 Lexington Avenue's cornice had reached the standard mid-cycle failure point: visible rust streaks below it, paint cracking at the seams, and a couple of decorative elements that had loosened over the years. The building was occupied by residents who notice details, on a block where the buildings are maintained to a higher standard than typical.
The work
Standard cornice rehabilitation — but executed to the finer standard the building deserved. Scrape, rust treat, solder where the metal had thinned, re-secure decorative elements, prime with epoxy, finish in two coats of premium color-matched paint. Every seam re-caulked. Every junction inspected before the final coat.
The result
Cornice restored to the standard the rest of the block holds. From the sidewalk it reads as continuous and original. From the apartments above the cornice line — where the building owners can see the work — every detail holds up to close inspection.
